I have been beekeeping since 1994 when I first met bees at a beekeeping class at school. I was so captivated by bees that they became a part of my professional career and I spent many afternoons working with them.
Together with other family members I take care of about 50 bee colonies in Pilštanj in the south-eastern part of Slovenia. Its characteristic hills and unspoiled nature are not suitable for intensive farming, but they do offer perfect conditions for bees to live and develop.
We have two transport units and two apiaries. One of them is located right next to our house and intended for reproduction of bee colonies, queen breeding, pollen harvest and apitourism. The other apiary is where we mostly keep spare bee colonies that are used to support commercial colonies.
We practice migratory beekeeping at other locations to obtain single flower honey. The type of honey we extract is different from season to season. In a good season, we produce forest, flower, acacia, chestnut and linden honey. We also sell honey in gift boxes.
We welcome guests from home and abroad
I offer guided tours of the beekeeping farm and presentations of beekeeping technology, queen breeding and honey extraction. Most of our guests are beekeepers and people who visit Pilštanj, a nearby village that is very interesting for tourists.
