Dear Sir/Madam,
Since 2005, the Republic of Slovenia has been upon the initiative of the Slovenian Beekeepers’ Association running a global campaign to declare 20 May as World Bee Day. The purpose of the initiative is to annually alert the global public to the importance of preserving bees and other pollinators for global food security and thus reduce hunger in the world, to remind people of the importance of bees for agriculture and the environment, and invite them to take part in concrete activities to preserve them. The initiative is strongly supported by the international community, and it is expected that the resolution will be passed and for the declaration of World Bee Day to take place in mid-December, i.e. between 11 and 20 December, at the plenary meeting of the United Nations General Assembly in New York City.
Slovenia will mark the declaration of World Bee Day with an exhibition in an interactive pavilion, the World of Bees, which will be displayed between 11 and 21 December in the UN Secretariat Building.
The interactive pavilion allows visitors to experience the ‘world of bees with all five senses’. What is the pavilion like? Picture a dome measuring 6 metres in diameter and 3.5 metres in height, made of wooden hexagons in the form of a honeycomb in which, assisted by virtual reality, you will find yourself in the centre of a beehive and get to fly like a bee. The pavilion allows you to discover all kinds of interesting information related to bees, view honey plants and experience the authentic aroma of a beehive with your mobile phone using augmented reality. The pavilion combines the latest technological advances based on the Slovenian know-how, and offers the visitors a unique experience.
You are cordially invited to experience the World of Bees.
Yours faithfully,
Mag. Dejan Židan
Head of the World Bee Day project
Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Slovenia
Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Food
